Spring 2007 couture
For Spring 2007, Carmen Marc Valvo takes his inspiration from the drama and proportion of Georgia O’Keeffe’s flower paintings. Defining the collection are oversized, abstract patterns, voluminous pieces with handcrafted details, and a spartan palette of midnight black, magnolia white, and a wash of rose, gold, and the muted luster of sand.
“Everyone has many associations with a flower,” Georgia O’Keeffe said. “Still—in a way—nobody sees a flower—really—it is so small—we haven’t time . . . So I said to myself—I’ll paint what I see—what the flower is to me.” Similarly, Carmen has magnified the delicacy—and harnessed the familiarity and sensuality—of flowers to create luxurious gowns and cocktail wear that illuminate the evening and envelop a woman in timeless elegance.
